Older VEDIT Updates

Older VEDIT (PLUS) Updates

This page has download links for older versions of VEDIT for Windows and DOS. This lets you update to the latest version for which you are eligible.

SSPMembers: Software Subscription Plan (SSP) members can download any VEDIT update during the 18-month support period. Go directly to the "Quick Update" page.

VEDIT PLUS 6.0 for Windows and DOS

Instructions:
  1. All registered VEDIT PLUS 6.0 users were emailed a new serial number on Mar. 07, 2003 for a free update to the final 6.03.4; with the new serial number your support expired on 12-2002 so that you can install 6.03.4. If {HELP, About} indicates that your support expired before 07-2002, please Login as a customer to access your new serial number. (To login, you must enter the first five digits of your old serial number and either your customer ID, Zipcode or registered name.)
  2. Download the VPA-6034.EXE, VPW-6034.EXE or VPD-6021.EXE file into a temporary directory such as c:\temp. NOTE: Do not download it into a directory already containing VEDIT.
  3. Running the VPA-6034.EXE file immediately starts the installation. You can install both the Windows and the DOS versions. Running the VPW-6034.EXE file immediately starts the installation. You can install only the Windows version. Running the VPD-6021.EXE file only unzips the files into the selected temporary directory. You must then change to the temporary directory and give the "install" command to start the DOS version installation.
  4. If you have both the Windows and DOS versions of VEDIT, we highly suggest updating both at the same time.

Alternatively, you can download and install from ".ZIP" files.

VEDIT PLUS 5.21.1 for Windows and DOS

All registered VEDIT PLUS 5.2 users were emailed a new serial number on Sept. 28, 2001 for a free update to the final 5.21.1; with the new serial number your support expired on 07-2001 so that you can install 5.21.1. If you do not have the new serial number and your support expired before 07-2001, please e-mail your customer information to . Please include enough customer information to verify your registration; an old serial number is helpful.

Instructions:
  1. Download the VPA-5211.EXE, VPW-5211.EXE or VPD-5211.EXE file into a temporary directory such as c:\temp; do not download it into a directory already containing VEDIT.
  2. Run the downloaded .EXE file, e.g. by double-clicking on it, to start the installation. (Technically, they are self-extracting .zip files.)
  3. Running the VPA-5211.EXE file immediately starts the installation. You can install both the Windows and the DOS versions. Running the VPW-5211.EXE file immediately starts the installation. You can install only the Windows version. Running the VPD-5211.EXE file only unzips the files into the selected temporary directory. You must then change to the temporary directory and give the "install" command to start the DOS version installation.
  4. If you have both the Windows and DOS versions of VEDIT, we highly suggest updating both at the same time.

VEDIT PLUS 5.16.5 for Windows and DOS

Instructions:
  1. You need a password to unzip the VPW-516.ZIP and VPD-516.ZIP files. The Nov. 19, 1999 e-mailnewsletter included the password for all eligible customers. You should have received the password when you originally ordered the product. Versions 5.10 thru 5.16 all have the same password. To request a password, please e-mail your customer information to sales@vedit.com. Please include enough customer information to verify your registration; a serial number is helpful.

VEDIT PLUS 5.05 for Windows (16-bit) and DOS

Instructions:
  1. You need a password to unzip the VPW-505.ZIP and VPD-505.ZIP files. You should have received the password when you originally ordered the product. Versions 5.00 thru 5.05 all have the same password. To request a password, please e-mail your customer information to sales@vedit.com. Please include enough customer information to verify your registration; a serial number is helpful.
  2. Download the update.
  3. Refer to the "Instructions for ZIP files" at the bottom of this page.

Instructions for .EXE files

  1. Download the desired .EXE file into a temporary directory such as c:\temp; do not download it into a directory already containing VEDIT.
  2. Run the .EXE file (e.g. by double-clicking on it). (They are self-extracting "zip" files.)
  3. Running the VPA-xxxx.EXE file immediately starts the installation. You can install or update the Windows version. Running the V64-xxxx.EXE file immediately starts the installation. It will install both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of VEDIT for Windows. Note: if you did not explicitly purchase VEDIT Pro64, the 64-bit version will only run as a trial version. Running the VPW-xxxx.EXE file immediately starts the installation. You can install or update only the Windows version. Select the [Quick] installation option. This will install the new version with the fewest questions. It will transfer the configuration and keyboard layout from the previous version to the new version.
  4. After installation, run VEDIT, select {HELP, Topics} and go to the "What's New" topic. This summarizes the new features and has links to their full description.

Instructions for .ZIP files

  1. After downloading a .ZIP file, you must unzip it with WinZip, Pkunzip, or a similar program.
    • With WinZip, open the ".ZIP" file and select the "Install" function or icon. This extracts the files into a temporary directory and runs the "setup" program to start the installation. (The temporary files are then automatically deleted after the installation is done.)
    • With Pkunzip for Windows, open the ".ZIP" file and first extract the file into a temporary directory such as "c:\temp". Next, run the "setup" program to start the installation.
    • Note: just double-clicking the "setup.exe" file in the Pkunzip window before extracting the files does not work. In our opinion, Pkunzip for Windows is more difficult to use than WinZip.
  2. Run the "setup" program to install the Windows version.
  3. Continue with step 3 above for .EXE files.
