VEDIT - Sorting
VEDIT's sorting is exceptionally fast and flexible. You can quickly sort huge text and data files, even 100+ megabyte files.
You can sort by any desired field (range of columns); this is typically referred to as the primary "key". You can also sort using a primary key and up to 9 secondary keys.
The sorting can be in ascending or descending order; it can optionally be case-sensitive. As an advanced option, you can set up your own collate order, e.g. whether digits are sorted before or after letters.
In this slide show, we will sort a typical data file containing names and addresses. We will sort it by last-name (the primary key) and first-name (a secondary key).
